EYE MINISTRY GENERAL DESCRIPTION | To
assist a genuine missionary program in the eye health arena of West Central African
countries. |
BACKGROUND INFORMATION | Christian
Eye Ministry was begun by a former professor of medicine at Stanford University.
Based in San Diego, Dr. Frank Winter addressed our Orange Co. assembly and asked
for assistance. Thousands of people in West Africa had never had eye care. Many
were going about their daily work and family life with impaired vision because
of cataracts and other problems. Dr. Winter realized that a relatively small investment
of resources and time could help remedy the situation. He put together a group
of physicians, optometrists, nurses, opticians, and technicians to donate their
time and make short, well organized clinical visits to these areas, |
HOW IT WORKS Brotherhood
chapters and parishes can boost Christian Eye by:
Contributing funds to Christian Eye Ministry;
Setting up collection points to gather parishioners and others used eye
glasses. The spectacles are then sent to C. E. where they are evaluated and labeled
so that they are easily usable for fitting peoples prescription needs.
Christian
Eye Ministry provides attractive collection kits with tax credit stickers. |
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Eye
glass collection kits may be received by contacting Christian Eye Ministry; - Christian

HOW TO GET STARTED Decide
to act. Send for your kit(s). Publicize
by oral announcements in services, mailer and bulletin notices.
Be on hand to talk it up with parishioners. Encourage people to set up kits in
their work places, too.
We are living in a very
small world now. The person who is able to be more productive in his or her work
in a far away place could be the biggest booster of U. S. trade and commerce in
the future. The child you enable to see his school work better may be the agricultural
expert of tomorrow who is able to help feed the world via a new crop or process.
It wont cost you much to bet on a bright future for someone in a less fortunate
society. It is a worthy endeavor for your brotherhood chapter.
