Library: Since many
parish libraries exist, the main job is to publicize their availability and encourage
parishioners to read. K librarian could and should provide a brief review of one
book each month in a parish bulletin or newsletter. Parishioners should be encouraged
to give feedback to the librarian. In view of the fact that people have a tendency
to borrow and then forget about books they need to be given a limited
time to read books and then followed up on if not returned. Parishioners should
be encouraged to donate books they have or to cover the cost of new books. The
opportunity to give books as memorials should not be overlooked. Book
Store: In parishes of 200 or more active parishioners a book store is probably
practical. Some jewelry might be carried also. Books can be consignment, for less
profit of course. We suggest that a glass display case be obtained and a few books
gotten on consignment from a local Christian book store. All books obtained should
be approved by the rector and read by the book store manager as soon
as practical. The book store should be publicized and open at specific times on
Sunday. It should also be helpful to have the book store managers name and telephone
number displayed. |
