(After
a brief visit with a sick person, usually at the time of leaving, the Brotherhood
member may say, "In the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, we have a very short service
for the sick that I would like to read for you with your permission. "If
the offer is not refused, the Brotherhood member proceeds with the following prayers.) A
Service For Use With A Sick Person (First Service) Grace
and peace be with you, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us pray. O
God of peace, you have taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved,
in quietness and confidence shall be our strength: By the might of your Spirit
lift us, we pray, to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are
God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Almighty
God, giver of life and health. Send your blessing on (name) who is sick, and upon
those who minister to him, that all weakness may be vanquished by the triumph
of the risen Christ, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen A
Service For Use With A Sick Person (Second Service) O
God of heavenly powers, by the might of your command you drive away from our bodies
all sickness and all infirmity: Be present in your goodness with your servant
(name), that his weakness may be banished and his strength restored; and that
his health being renewed, he may bless your holy Name. Amen. Almighty
and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations,
so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and
then use us, we pray, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of
your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. May
God the Father bless you, God the Son heal you, God the Holy Spirit give you strength.
May God the undivided Trinity guard your body, save your soul, and bring you safely
to his heavenly country; where he lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen. (If
the sick person is about to undergo surgery, the following prayer may be used.) Strengthen
your servant (name), O
God, to do what he has to do, bear what he has to bear; that accepting your healing
gifts through the skill of surgeons and nurses, he may be restored to usefulness
in your world with a thankful heart; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
